Bloomington Scholastic Chess Bloomington, Indiana

Hello chess parents and players,
This is a reminder that there will be a chess meeting this Sunday, March 7th at the
Hoosier Energy Training Center from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Please remember to bring your
chess sets and notated games to this meeting.
I know quite a few players are competing in the chess class tournament on Saturday.
The games played will be all very competitive. Eddy Labin can review some of these
games with you at our meeting. Do take advantage of this opportunity.
Alea Ford will be showing the beginners or intermediate about notation, please bring
your regulation chess sets. We have club notation sheets and pencils.
Everyone please pitch in cleaning up and putting the rooms back in order. We are
using the facility for free so we would not want to lose this privilege.
Future meeting dates: March 28th, April 11th, April 25th and May 16th. We have the
funding to hire Aaron Dean for all the remaining meetings and he has agreed to come
to all of them.
Chess Club next year:
For all of you who would like to see the chess club continue next year, please email
me if you are willing to be involved. I will try to get all of you linked up. A few of the
parents have indicated their interest.
Exciting results from the State Team Regional Tournament:
Tri-North Middle School chess team (Winston, Josh, Ronald and Evan) won first place
at the Indianapolis regional without much resistance. Lighthouse Christian Academy
U9 and U3 teams with Nathan and Esther also qualified for State Final. The most
exciting news is that the three teams from University Elementary School (Alex S.,
Matthew Z, Abdulaziz, Gregory, Seth, Jongha and Alan form our club) swept first,
second and third places among a field of 21 teams at the Terre Heute regional!!
Congratulations!
Good luck to all the players participating in the chess class tournament this Saturday.
Get a lot of sleep because all the games are played against players of similar levels.
We will see you there!
